Using Artificial Intelligence in Issuing Fatwas: A Jurisprudential Study.

Abstract

The study adopts a descriptive approach to discuss artificial intelligence (AI), defining it as one of the fundamental pillars upon which current technology relies. The research explores AI’s impact on fatwas, highlighting its benefits in providing easy and accessible answers, as well as its drawbacks stemming from AI’s inability to comprehend human nuances. It delves into the fiqh rulings concerning AI, which vary depending on its purpose, with a presumption of permissibility unless proven otherwise. The study also addresses the legal ruling on utilizing robots in fatwa issuance, deeming it permissible as they merely relay the fatwa. Liability resulting from robot errors varies based on competence and trustworthiness, with the primary responsibility resting on the agreement of jurists. Thus, the research aims to elucidate the nature of fatwas through AI, concluding that robots could potentially become muftis in the future.
