The ceremony commenced with the playing of the Palestinian National Anthem, while Mrs. Farah Qafisheh served as the master of ceremonies, introducing and guiding the various segments of the event in a manner that reflected the spirit of the occasion and contributed to its lively and engaging atmosphere.
In his welcoming speech, University President Prof. Imad Al-Zeer welcomed the new students, expressing his pride in welcoming them as members of Palestine Ahliya University family and wishing them a successful and distinguished university journey marked by achievement and excellence.
Prof. Al-Zeer emphasized that university life represents far more than academic achievement; it provides an environment for personal development, broadening perspectives, discovering abilities, developing skills, and gaining experiences that will accompany students throughout their professional and personal lives. He called on students to make the most of their university years by taking full advantage of the academic, research, and extracurricular opportunities offered by the University, and by actively participating in student activities, initiatives, and events.
He also noted that the University is committed to providing a supportive and stimulating campus environment that enables students to learn, grow, and actively participate, while helping them transform their aspirations into tangible achievements. Additionally, he emphasized that the University, its faculties, deanships, and facilities will remain open and accessible to students throughout their university journey.
For his part, Dr. Ihab Khalaileh, Dean of Student Affairs, highlighted the Deanship’s role in university life, explaining that it is one of the University’s primary points of contact for students and provides them with support and assistance throughout the various stages of their university journey. He also underscored the importance of extracurricular activities, student programs, and initiatives in shaping students’ personalities, developing their skills, strengthening their leadership and communication abilities, and enabling them to discover their talents and potential. Such opportunities contribute to fostering a well-rounded university experience that extends beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
For his part, Dr. Mohammed Kouali, Dean of Admissions and Registration, provided the new students with a set of important academic instructions and guidelines to support them at the beginning of their university journey. He explained the services provided by the Deanship, the procedures for following up on registration and academic matters, and the importance of adhering to the University’s regulations, instructions, and established deadlines.
Dr. Kouali also emphasized the importance of maintaining regular communication with the Deanship of Admissions and Registration whenever students require information or assistance, as well as making effective use of the academic advisor’s role in monitoring their study plans, understanding academic requirements, and making appropriate academic decisions. These efforts help ensure that students follow a clearer and more stable academic pathway.
Following the formal proceedings, the ceremony shifted to its artistic and entertainment part, featuring a live performance by the young Jerusalemite artist Canaan Al-Ghoul, which drew enthusiastic engagement from the students and added an atmosphere of joy and excitement to the occasion. The students continued their first day amid a vibrant and memorable celebratory atmosphere.
The orientation activities also featured a diverse range of interactive activities and experiences across several areas of the University campus, with the participation of Jawwal, Bavaria, Donut Bite, and the Youth-Friendly Health Center. These partners provided interactive spaces for students, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere of engagement, social interaction, and communication, while adding further energy and vibrancy to their first day at the University.
The event provided new students with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the University’s facilities, deanships, and services, interact with their peers, and explore a range of activities and opportunities in which they can engage throughout their university years. This, in turn, helped foster a sense of belonging to the University community from their very first day.
