
Palestinian Ahliya University participates in the General Conference of the Arab Universities Union in its sixty-sixth session, signing agreements and memoranda of cooperation with a group of universities from Arab countries.
The President of the Palestinian Ahliya University, Dr. Imad Al-Zeer, and and Mr. Jiries Abu Ghannam, President Assistant for International and Public Relations Affairs, are participating in the proceedings of the General Conference of the Arab Universities Union in its sixty-sixth session, held in Baghdad. This is in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq, Dr. Naem Al-Abboudi, and the Secretary-General of the Arab Universities Union, Prof. Amr Ezzat Salama, along with presidents and representatives of Arab universities.
On the first day of the conference, several sessions were held, including discussions on international cooperation, the Bologna Process, the project of ranking Arab universities, a procedural session, and the discussion of all proposed agenda items. The second day includes a tour of the exhibition showcasing scientific achievements of Iraqi universities, concluding with a discussion of all presented items, recommendations, and the final statement.
The conference aimed to include all Arab higher education institutions in comprehensive reforms and provide facilitations for all challenges facing the development of the Arab education sector, following the model of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA). The Union sought to offer innovative solutions for the Arab region, as it includes a group of prestigious and distinguished Arab universities in its membership and working on enhancing cooperation and scientific exchange among them.
The conference also addressed that the Arab Universities Union is working to enhance cooperation among researchers and academics in the Arab world through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, as well as organizing seminars and scientific conferences that contribute to achieving sustainable development in the region.
Dr. Imad Al-Zeer chaired the session of the Union’s Financial Committee during the conference. The committee recommended exempting Palestinian universities from all previous subscription fees until the end of 2024. Dr. Al-Zeer expressed his gratitude to the General Assembly and the Secretariat of the Union for approving the recommendation as part of the system supporting Palestinian higher education.
Additionally, the scheduled meetings for the Membership Committee and the Committee for Centers and Institutions were held to discuss the agenda, including the addition of several universities, the status of academic institutions affiliated with the Union, approval of the general budget. Furthermore, the General Union of Arab Universities endorsed the launch of the Arab Council for Academic Exchange, headquartered at Palestine Ahliya University in Palestine, under the presidency of Dr. Imad Al-Zeer.
