Palestine Ahliya University, in partnership with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society and Burj Alluqluq Social Center Society<\/a>, and with funding from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized awareness activities to mark Pink October, the global month dedicated to raising awareness of breast cancer. The activities form part of the University\u2019s commitment to promoting health awareness among students and staff, fostering a culture of prevention and early detection, and highlighting the vital role of healthy nutrition, mental health, and social support in promoting overall well-being and enhancing quality of life.<\/p>

The activities reaffirmed the University\u2019s commitment to its community role in promoting health education, encouraging members of the university community to adopt healthy lifestyles, and raising awareness of the importance of regular screenings and early detection of breast cancer. These efforts aim to help reduce the risks associated with the disease and enhance understanding of preventive measures and informed approaches to addressing health challenges.<\/p>

The activities commenced with remarks by Mr. Khaled Shanaa, President Assistant for Community Development Affairs and Projects<\/a>, who emphasized the importance of health awareness initiatives in serving the community and reflecting the University\u2019s commitment to health and social issues. He also highlighted the role of such activities in raising students\u2019 awareness and encouraging their active participation in initiatives that promote social responsibility and volunteerism.<\/p>

Dr. Ihab Khalaileh<\/a>, Dean of Student Affairs, delivered a statement on behalf of the implementing partners, underscoring the importance of institutional collaboration among academic, health, and community organizations in implementing effective awareness programs. He emphasized that strategic partnerships facilitate the exchange of expertise, strengthen coordination, and expand outreach to diverse community groups, while promoting youth engagement in health awareness and community initiatives that generate positive social impact.<\/p>

Ms. Sabrin Obeidallah, Programs Manager at the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, and Farah Abu Zant, Project Coordinator at Burj Alluqluq Social Center Society<\/a>, delivered remarks on behalf of their respective organizations. Both emphasized the importance of institutional partnerships in implementing educational activities for young people, enhancing their knowledge of health issues, and fostering an interactive environment that encourages dialogue and the exchange of reliable health information.<\/p>

As part of the activities, a specialized panel discussion was held, moderated by Mr. Mysara Rumman, Head of the Health Sciences Department at the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences. The discussion featured a group of female specialists who addressed complementary aspects of physical and mental health, with particular emphasis on the importance of breast cancer awareness.<\/p>

During the discussion, Dr. Rose Hamarsheh highlighted the importance of proper nutrition in promoting overall health and emphasized the adoption of healthy eating habits as part of a balanced lifestyle. Ms. Ameera Danoun, the social psychologist at the Deanship of Student Affairs, addressed the psychological and social dimensions of health, emphasizing the importance of psychological support in navigating health challenges and enhancing individuals\u2019 ability to cope with them. Mrs. Sabrin Obeid Allah, in turn, discussed the health aspects of breast cancer, stressing the importance of raising awareness of the disease and promoting knowledge of early detection methods to improve the chances of diagnosis at an early stage and encourage timely screening and medical consultation when needed.<\/p>

The activities also featured a series of health awareness and educational stations organized and presented by university students in collaboration with the Youth-Friendly Health Center, Burj Alluqluq Social Center Society, the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences, and the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Professions. The stations covered a range of health topics, presenting information in accessible, interactive formats tailored to students\u2019 interests. They aimed to enhance students\u2019 understanding of preventive health practices and physical and mental well-being, while encouraging the adoption of healthy daily habits.<\/p>

Attendees visited the awareness stations to review the activities and initiatives implemented by students, learn about their content and objectives, and engage with the educational materials and health messages presented. The visit underscored the importance of student engagement in advancing awareness initiatives and highlighted the role of practical learning activities in translating theoretical knowledge into meaningful outreach that promotes health awareness and strengthens a culture of prevention both within the University and in the wider community.<\/p>

The event was attended by Mr. Khaled Shanaa, President Assistant for Community Development Affairs and Projects; Mr. Jiries Abu Ghannam, President Assistant for Public Relations and International Affairs and; Dr. Ihab Khalaileh, Dean of Student Affairs; Prof. Ahmad Al-Batran, Dean of the Faculty of Allied Medical Sciences; Dr. Hamza Shaheen, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Professions; Sabrin Obeid Allah, Programs Manager at the Palestinian Medical Relief Society; and Farah Abu Zant, Project Coordinator at Burj Alluqluq Social Center Society, along with members of the academic and administrative staff and a large number of students.<\/p>

These activities reflect Palestine Ahliya University\u2019s ongoing commitment to community service, active student engagement in health awareness initiatives, and strengthened partnerships with health and community institutions. Through these efforts, the University seeks to promote health education, encourage early detection and prevention, and foster a holistic approach to physical and mental well-being.<\/p>

The initiatives further reaffirm the University\u2019s commitment to fostering a supportive campus environment that promotes learning and community engagement, while preparing students to become informed and socially responsible individuals who actively contribute to health awareness and the well-being of their communities.<\/p>
